Here is a selection of the many kind testimonials we've been receiving recently...
Liz Burgess has been my riding instructor since February 2009. It is my opinion that her teaching abilities are first class. Liz always has a calm, patient and professional manner even when dealing with the most difficult horses and riders alike. Her friendly personality and brilliant sense of humour can put the most nervous of riders at ease. I feel safe and secure when being taught by Liz, as I know that the horse and riders safety are always her top priority. Liz will work with you at your own pace, gently encouraging and not pushing you to the next level. I always look forward to her classroom lessons, she manages to teach you the important information but has a skill of making it interesting and enjoyable at the same time. Her knowledge of the equestrian world is limitless and she will always give you a clear explanation of what is required and why it is necessary. The tuition that I have received from Liz in the last nine months has made vast improvements in my riding abilities, my confidence around horses has grown and it is all thanks to a fantastic talented teacher. Keep up the good work Liz! Claire Wood 09/11/2009
Sally (& Holly) I started riding here at Willow Farm in January 2009. Willow Farm is a lovely place to come, it has such a lovely atmosphere. Everyone is so very friendly. Roy and Sharon Paskell the owners of Willow Farm have some very special people working for them.....Liz the Yard Manager, Jaz and Megan the Twins. I received a voucher from my husband for Christmas, giving me 5 different lessons. It is the BEST Christmas Present I have ever received. I had never ridden before, so naturally I was a little nervous. That didn't matter though because all the staff were very understanding and gave me assurance all the time. They also match you to the horse and your ability. I had Fella, who is a real gentlemen and understood me. My daughter Holly who is 15 also started with me and it is really nice to do something together and have an interest we can both get involved in. The trouble with Horse Riding is that it becomes very addictive and I can't get enough of it! There is so much you can do, so much to learn and always something to look forward to. At Willow Farm you are not just sat on a horse, you are taught how to ride correctly and how to enjoy your riding. All the Teaching Staff, (especially my teacher Liz), have so much patience and they never make you feel silly if you cannot grasp something. When you get to my age (46) things take a little longer to sink in, but you are never too old to learn something new. My favourite so far was the Summer School, which Holly and I both did. There were 9 of us in total and we all learnt so much in just the 4 days. It was like going back to school in a way, learning in the class room, how a horse works, what and when they eat and then out on the yard, putting into practice what we had learnt. We all had our own horse to look after for the week. I had Fella and Holly had Drago. We both gained so much confidence, learning how to groom them properly, how to tack up. Also how to muck out a stable, which is just as important. We also had a lesson each day, learning a dressage routine and for those who were capable, Jumping, (I was not one of those this year but perhaps next year). We learnt how to get our horses ready for a Dressage Competition, bathing our horse, grooming and plaiting their manes and tails. Then on Friday we got them ready for our little show in the afternoon. It was really nice to be able to invite family/friends to see when we had learnt and really ended a lovely week. Through out the week nothing was too much trouble for any member of staff. They were always willing to help and to answer any questions we might have. I have also been on (sedate) Hacks around the village and country side, which is lovely, especially when the sun in shining. My next aim is to go out on a Woods Hack which they have regularly. My greatest achievement will be when I am confident and able enough to go to the beach with everyone and the horses, but for this you have to be able to gallop and I am not quite up to that this year. I will be working really hard though so I can go next year. Willow Farm to me is the place to be. You learn how to ride properly, it's good exercise, fun and you make some really good friends. Oh yes then there are all those lovely horses. So husband, you are going to find it really hard to match last years Christmas Present. (Although you know how much I would now like my own horse, so I will make sure I have a really big stocking this year)
Hi everyone at Willow Farm, just to say a big thanks, especially to Meg and Jazz. What brilliant instructors. They both have so much patience which goes a long way if you're a novice like me.I never thought I would take up riding again but with there skills and of course the fantastic horses I'm learning something new every week. All the staff are so friendly - what a team! I would highly recommend coming to willow farm not only for the riding which covers all abilities but all the other excellent facilities they have to offer. jenny Ferrell 12/07/09 Rock, Dereck debbie_osborn 17/12/08 |

The welcome that you receive at Willow Farm is second to none. The owners make every effort to ensure that all of their clients, regardless of age or ability, feel valued and a part of the Willow family. The staff clearly love horses and the standard of instruction is second to none. I wouldn't ride anywhere else and can't recommend it highly enough Liz is just marvellous, combining flair and élan she is almost angelic. She has the verbal dexterity of Stephen Fry, the soft mellowed tones of Sinatra and a grace of movement unseen since Darcy Bussell. Also, she can ride a bit. (Darcy Bussell ? Shurely shome mishtake - ed) At last, a riding school that cares about it's horses as animals and not as money making machines. The riding instructors listen to what you want from your lessons and help you achieve it. Hacking is great too! Emma Rochester (31/0CT/2008) THANK YOU SO MUCH WILLOW FARM! I have been riding with Willow for about 6 months now, from a complete novice's point of view the teaching has instilled me with confidence and is extremely effective in terms of my skill aquisition. The pace of lessons is good in terms of developing and embedding skills whilst chellenging to move forward. The thing I enjoy the most, apart from the amazing sense of achievement I get from mastering a new skill, is the variety of lessons and teaching techniques. I have had musical formation riding, jumping, group, individual and lunge lessons, not to mention the hacks out in the beautiful Kent countryside. Liz, the riding school manager, is particularly excellent as the main teacher but I have also had some very good lessons from the other staff. Sharon in the shop was extremely helpful in kitting me out and ensuring the kit I bought was right for me to enable me to learn to ride safely. She had excellent product knowledge and I was particularly impressed that she didn't necessarily get me to buy the most expensive kit, just the kit that was right for me and my wallet. She is also a great laugh and very personable. We spent a very happy hour getting all the pre-riding kit sorted out before I ventured into the riding school. The horses are brilliant. There are a great selection for every shape and size of rider. Even as a large man, I have had the choice of a selection of horses to suit my ability, getting more forward going as I havce progressed. The horses are extremely well cared for and presented and definitely seem to enjoy the lessons and hacks as much as the riders! Willow Farm does of course a fantastic job with the horse rescue side of their operation and are to be commended on the number of horses they have helped and the care they provide to horses who need it. Going to Willow Farm is one of the highlights of my week, its great for stress busting, general fitness and they do a fantastic bacon sandwich! Thanks Willow Farm! David Burgess ( Nov 8th 2008) Here are some more from the TouchMedway site..... Gentle and Kind I had bought a mare for my daughter who was extremely nervous and reared up occasionally. I took her to Roy who was gentle and patient with her, 2 weeks later she had shook away her nerves and is a relaxed pony and now my daughter rides , hack and competes regulary . Thanks Roy is now schooling a 4 year old for me. Review Date: 07/01/2008 ---Tabatha W Fantastic Riding School : I have been riding at Willow Farm since it opened in April 2007, and cannot express what a wonderful place it is. I really enjoy the Musical Dressage run by Liz and always look forward to it greatly. Liz always makes it good fun, whilst still improving your riding. Roy's lessons on a Sunday afternoon, are definitley not to be missed, and although I am exhausted by the end of it, I always leave with a huge smile on my face. I would recommend Willow Farm to anybody. If you don't ride you can still enjoy a friendly chat with Sharon in the shop whilst having a coffee and watching the lessons in the huge indoor school. Review Date: 15/11/2007 ---- Matthew H Great riding school ! I finally got the chance to get back in the saddle after a protracted period without the opportunity. What a great stables this is. As an experienced, but rusting rider, I was apprehenisve about an assessment after such a long gap. Liz was sympathetic to my plight and had me making transitions from halt to canter without my stirrups after about 10mins! Since then I've been out hacking and replenished all my rotting riding kit at the shop. Standard of horse care is very high, the highest I've seen in a commercial stables. Indoor school is an excellent size and the local hacking is lovely. The only downside to this is that I can't get there as often as I'd like. Review Date: 12/11/2007 --- Lally B Riding Lessons for Children: Having taken my horse mad daughter to several riding establishments over the years I was very excited to hear that a new horse riding centre was opening in Faversham, Kent. As well as being a riding school, Willow Farm Equestrian & Saddlery Ltd is an extensive equestrian shop, stocking everything you need, from childrens' gifts to riding accessories and extensive horse supplies, whilst remaining a friendly, fun and most importantly, safe environment to ride. The riding arena is undercover and the best I have seen so far, with a small cafe which caters for Birthday Parties or just a cup of tea to keep you warm whilst watching the budding young riders. My daughter is happy and excited to ride and is challenged every time, making the whole experience fun and from a parent point of view...... "value for money". The feedback is forthcoming and not "stiff and starchy" as so many horsey places can be...particularly if you are not a rider yourself. My daughter's teacher Liz, is full of enthusiasm and obviously enjoys working with children and it shows when she communicates with them, with a "let's make learning fun" approach. She is easy to talk to and introduces many new ideas and events. A recent highlight for us was a "Musical" ride which I think even the horses enjoyed! I would definitely recommend Willow Farm to anyone considering riding, grown up or little!!! Give it a go and I know you'll be back!! Review Date: 05/11/2007 ---Zoe W Liz Great instructing skills, natural and down to earth. Being a bit nervous and inexperienced, I found Liz gave me heaps of confidence and had me stretching myself without realising it! Loves the horses and knows her stuff. Liz Burgess I hadn't been on a horse for about 16 years so was quite nervous - but Liz is not only an excellent teacher but she has a great rappour with her students - young ones and over 30's like myself!! The horses are all really loved and cared for too which is the main priority for the staff. Sharon and Roy and the team are dedicated to the welfare of these beautiful animals which are often not cared for in other places. I tried a few lessons at another large well known stables not far from Willow Farm and I left in disgust at the poor teaching techniques and attitude to the horses. I cannot recommend Liz highly enough. Review Date: 24/05/2007 Jo E: Excellent Instructor I can vouch for Liz Burgess as an brilliant instructor, really great for building your confidence. Comes highly recommended! ---Helen W Confidence Boosting I visited Willow Farm having not been anywhere near a horse for about 5 years and not had a lesson for 23 years! I was nervous but Liz chose a horse for me that was well behaved. I found Liz to be an excellent instructor and by the end of the lesson I had even got enough confidence to try a little jump. I will be making the 2 hour journey again in the near future to have another lesson at this friendly and well equipped. Jackie M Great facilities Found this riding school through this website and thought I'd pop along and take a look. The facilities are very good and the horses are kept in great condition. The staff made me feel very welcome. The addition of a well stocked and reasonably priced on-site shop is a real bonus! Looking forward to moving my horse in very soon. Thank you Sharon and Liz for giving me the 'guided tour'! Really appreciate it. Jack. Review Date: 14/05/2007 Excellent hack out Liz took my daughter and I out on a hack. She chose excellent mounts for us and took us on a really good route. The new yard has excellent facilities, a really well stocked shop and a good cup of coffee! My daughter's already booked in for a lesson in the indoor school to work on her jumping. We're looking forward to spending a lot of time there. Review Date: 14/05/2007 Feedback from a livery customer :A welcoming atmosphere greets you at Willow Farm. The horses are part of the family and their welfare takes top priority. I have learnt more during my time at Willow Farm than at any other riding establishment. Liz Burgess is an excellent instructor who encourages you to push the boundaries and pursue perfection in your riding ability. The combination of a large indoor school and an outside school also means you can ride happily in all weathers. The shop is well stocked with knowledgeable staff - perhaps the only downside of livery at Willow Farm is that you are tempted to pop into the shop each time you visit your horse!! AND EVEN MORE....... After all the fun and frolics I've had at Willow Farm its only fair that I write you something suitably lovey. So here goes; I have been lucky enough to find Willow Farm after a long period without horses. Willow Farm offers such a great variety of activities for all levels and tastes. I particularly enjoy hacking out and Willow is able to offer interesting horses and lovely countryside with a great mixture of road and track. If you have a more technical interest Willow can offer excellent instructors and great all weather facilities. You can even find a new pair of jods in the enormous shop. (Caroline Holebrook) Hi Liz & Sharon, thought I'd just let you know that the girls had a WONDERFUL time at the party today and were all sweaty, dirty and worn out by the time they returned home - PERFECT! (I encl some pics.) Meg(?!) and the young girl that was with her did a brilliant job and really kept the girls happy and entertained. Roy was also really patient with us, waiting until 5.30 for us to finish, as they didn't finish with the horses until 5. PLEASE PASS OUR THANKS ON TO THEM. See you again soon (I think Olivia is going to be coming with the girls in future, she's hooked!) (Angela) A quarter of a century on from my last riding lesson, I was very apprehensive about taking up again as an adult a sport I'd loved in my childhood. But learning to ride at Willow Farm is a fantastic experience. Liz, my riding instructor, is great and I've learnt more from her so far in the few weeks I've been going than I ever learned over the course of years previously. The whole stables has a lovely atmosphere and I have found all of the staff really friendly and welcoming. If you're a beginner rider or a 'returner' like me, I'd highly recommend Willow Farm as the place to go. (Katy Jackson (39)) We have been to lots of riding stables, but Willow Farm is the best. Here there are brilliant lessons, brilliant horses and brilliant instructors. One of the instructors is Jazz. She is a kind and helpful instructor and she gets you to do what she wants without shouting. Jazz has helped us all the way through. We have had a lot of help from the other instructors but we get it mostly from Jazz. Since we’ve come to Willow Farm, we’ve learnt how to jump, trot over poles and walk over poles. We find Jazz is a BRILLIANT instructor and you should think so too. (By Bryony and Rhiannon Thorogood) Please can you say a big thank you to Samantha for helping me in the jumping clinic, I would not of did it without her help. My brother also said thank you for helping him complete the course and teaching him about the jumps. (Dana and James Freeman) Many thanks Liz for arranging our riding lesson yesterday, we enjoyed it very much (and were very lucky with the weather too). Thanks especially to Samantha (that's right, isn't it? She took as around the indoor track),the two girls who had to walk us around that massive rape field while we sat up on our horses, and finally Norman and Sinead (although I don't reckon I'll be too sorely missed by Norman). (Simon and Sapna Oram ) Colette, We came to you show jumping at willow farm on sunday 30th March 2008. What a great day we had, your show was well organised and the support by your groundstaff (probably friends/family) was amazing, even to the point of giving them giving out instructions and a 'well done' to everyone after each round. The special rosettes for just getting round was a really nice touch. Will definitely be coming again.Well done to you and your supporters.(Lisa Smith) Just wanted to write a comment on my first fast hack at willow farm ! I was slightly nervous when i booked the hack, think maybe because i had never been on one at willow farm so wasnt really sure what to expect.. It was also quite windy, but i was also very excited. I was on Rodney and was wondering if i would be able to get him to gallop as he is a TROTTER. I just wanted to say anyone that is a little doubtfull about going on the fast hack but feels they are ready to......... GO FOR IT !!! It was the best day i have had in ages, i was like a little kid again, i couldnt get the smile off my face. RODNEY went for it and i was even over taking people. When we got to the end of the field i wanted to keep going. The experience is undescribable. best thing ever ! well near on ha ha. I will definitely be going on the next one. (laraine) Hi, I just had to write a comment on how pleased i was with your stables and friendliness of staff when I came to visit you on 11/02/08 it was nice to be shown around the stables which at a lot of places you don't really get.. It was also nice NOT to feel like just another number and the welcome i had was great. I then had a lesson with Liz and was on a beautiful horse called fella. I have been going to different stables to try and find the right one and i new as soon as i walked in that this would be the one. I have in the past been put on smaller horses and prefer being on bigger sized ones. As we went through my lesson i new i had to come back again for more. i felt Liz corrected me in how i was riding and felt she is the best teacher i have had. My other stables i have been to i have found i haven't really progressed any further and in the first 10 minutes with Liz i felt like i already had.. I feel at willow farm there is going to be much more progression and opportunities for me and already cant wait to ride again.(laraine)
Hi Liz, I just wanted to thank you and the staff for a lovely day on 22nd December! We had great time round the shop, drank several cups of tea to warm us up and a nice bacon sarnie! Laura really enjoyed her lesson on Ed despite the nerves/tears and I think (hope) it has inspired her to have more as I think we all feel that’s what she needs although I have to say it’s hard finding places with the big weight carrying horses these days! I really liked your teaching and I’m sure we’ll be back in the near future –look out Ed! Anyway, just wanted to say big thanks. We’re a couple hours drive away which is a pain and she doesn’t drive so I’m going to give her some lunges/lessons on her own horse in between visits and hopefully next time she can move up a gear??!! (Dora) Hi Liz, Just wanted to say thank you again for my lesson on the lovely Ed! Since then i've ridden 6/7 times on my boy and am feelin a lot more confident and he's starting to work nicely! I've shortened my stirrups by 3 holes and have to admit after the 2nd time i felt a lot safer, and have my trusty neckstrap! I really hope to come back again soon as thought your teaching skills were wonderful, kind but to the point. Thank you again, i'm like a new woman! (Laura )
